This game was my student team project at DigiPen during my sophomore year (2018-2019). For the majority of the project the team was comprised of 7 members, 4 programmers, 2 designers, and 1 musician.
I was one of the programmers and was responsible for the visuals of the game. I implemented various systems such as the particle emitter system, sprite animation system, and the lighting.
The lighting is an improved version of one that I implemented for a personal project the summer prior, and that lighting was completely improvised as I only knew the basics to fragment shaders at the time. The lighting was tricky, because all of the graphics are rendering in 2 dimensions, but I wanted to give the lighting a 3 dimensional effect. To achieve this I had to reinterpret the x and y coordinates using an artificial z position, as well as some other tricks in order to get it the way it is.
As a side part, I was also responsible for the game’s theme and created the art assets. The tiles had normal maps so that they could interact with the lighting and make the tiles look less repetitive.
